AMG is firing on all cylinders at the moment at basically minutes after I posted about us not having seen Abominations stat card released his Panel to Play. Let’s dig in:

The first notable thing for the character originally planed to come out as the first expansion after the OG core set with Hulk is, that he does have an injured side. So he doesn’t work like his arch enemy or that guy’s cousin. He instead comes with damage reduction that even grants an additional power if he takes damage through an enemy effect.

Blonsky is strong enough to push Sentinels with his close range gaiber, has a reliable 5 dice gainer go guarantee some power, Hero Thor’s incredible terrain throw on a 65mm base and an absolutely awesome spender that he wants to use as often as possible in any given game. Radiation zone is an interesting power that could be really brutal in combination with Baron Strucker and Omega Red (he shares an affiliation with each) but the amount of Poison Immune models in the game puts a big damper on this combination. Definitely don’t bring it against Inhumans.

Affiliations:

Hydra:

Baron Strucker

Emil has big synergy here and probably outplays Red Skull 2 as the 5 for the Baron.

Red Skull 2

Going tall with both Red Skull and A-Bomb could be interesting. Blonsky doesn’t seem like he’s particularly power starved so the leadership doesn’t do that much for him but more power never hurts either.

Helmut Zemo

I don’t know. I think since the Eyes on the Prize rotation it is a dead leadership anyway.

Criminal Syndicate:

Kingpin:

Wilson Fisk absolutely loves this guy. He’s fast, durable and has multiple ways to displace people (though only on attack triggers).

Shadowland Daredevil :

A-bomb throws big dice pools which SLDD likes to give rerolls to.

MODOK 2:

Net positive leadership for offense and defense and can help get the push trigger on the builder. George and Emil also have a team up card we’ll get to in a second.

Klaw:

If everything goes well Abomination won’t give you any Klaw triggers so not the best fit.

He’s not affiliated there but I have to shout out Midnight Sons as they turn him into a safe midline grab with his big base and medium move while gaining 2 power per power phase

Once again: don’t bring this card against Inhumans. The effect is very very strong but the bigger question is how many models will you get poison on in the first place? If Abomination had 6 power he can of course do his Radiation Zone first and guarantee some targets will have Poison. Not stapled to him since you have to take a very good look at your opponents roster to see if it worth it. A good candidate to bring in with Helmut Zemo leadership or, more likely, Gwenpool’s card “No, try this one”. B.

Fantastic art, flavour and effect. Sadly I don’t see a lot of realistic scenarios where you could actually play it. Spending 5 power on either George Tarleton is a gigantic investment and in most cases you won’t want to have George and Emil this close together either. Great if you get it off, but unlikely to ever do so. C-.

Overall A-Bomb seems like a very fun character to play that will probably make my next CS and Hydra rosters and is really interesting in Midnight Sons, though he fights against Werewolf by Night there which is a tough battle. A.

I have some other posts planned but it’s most likely our next installment will be the full reveal of the awesome Wrecking Crew that comes in Blonskys box. Either way, see you then!

Cheers from Germany 🍻
